The receivers of the 2019 Honorary Heart of Sarajevo, Oscar-winning directors Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu and Pawel Pawlikowski, as well as Oscar-winning production designer Eugenio Caballero and cast and crew of THE SON, led by director Ines Tanovic, walked the Red carpet of the Sarajevo Film Festival on the opening night of the leading film showcase in Southeast Europe.

The 25th anniversary edition of the Festival officially kicked off with the world premiere of THE SON.

Other guests to walk the red carpet on the opening night of the Festival included Danis Tanović, Ivana Roščić, Goran Bogdan, Saša Lošić, Branko Đurić, Tanja Ribič, Nikola Kojo, Alma Prica, Jadranka Đokic, Gordana Boban, Vedrana Božinović, Admir Glamočak, Emir Hadžihafizbegović, Branimir Popović, Jasna Žalica, Pjer Žalica, Jelena Veljača, Amra Silajdžić Džeko and Sarah Čerkez. The Festival’s official opening ceremony will also be attended by Abdulah Skaka, Milan Bandić, Ivan Vuković, Edin Forto, Elmedin Konaković, Mirvad Kurić and Nermin Muzur.

The world premiere of THE SON, a film by Bosnian and Herzegovinian director Ines Tanović, opened this year’s Competition Progamme – Feature Film. The screening was held at 20:15 at the National Theatre, and also at Raiffeisen Open Air Cinema at 21:00.

Arman is about to turn 18. He was adopted as a baby by Jasna and Senad, who were unable to have children of their own. However, four years after the adoption, Jasna gives birth to Dado. Throughout his life, Arman has had a hard time coping with being an adopted child. Full of explosive energy, he constantly gets in trouble together with his schoolmates. Despite being very intelligent, he is labelled as a problem child. The only place he feels safe and loved is with Jasna’s parents. At the same time, Arman does all he can to save Dado from self-destructing. However, despite everything he does to support his brother, his parents interpret Arman’s involvement incorrectly, and blame him for every trouble with Dado.
