wizz airThe Ambassador of Hungary Jozsef Negyesi announced in an interview with the Director of the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency (FIPA) Gordan Milinic, expansion of operations of low cost airline Wizz Air at Sarajevo Airport and the opening of new air lines, especially line Sarajevo-Budapest, as announced from FIPA.

“After Tuzla, which is our main base in BiH, we will establish flights from Sarajevo as well, which we consider as very important destination. Moreover, we are also interested in investing in the Sarajevo Airport,” said Head of department for development in this company, Jozsef Ujhely, after conversation with Deputy Minister of Communications and Transport of BiH, Sasa Dalipagic.

Director of Wizz Air Jozsef Varadi stated that Wizz Air is extremely interested in BiH and expressed his hope to repeat in Sarajevo the success that they achieved in Tuzla.

This statement came just a few weeks after the government of Hungary stated that they will subsidize services between Budapest and the capital of BiH, since the high prices of airport taxes have been the main problem for business expansion of Wizz Air at Sarajevo Airport so far.

Wizz Air opened a base in Tuzla last year in June. Currently planes are departing to eight destinations in Europe from this city. Last year at the Tuzla Airport was recorded 268,748 passengers, which is an increase of more than 70 % compared to the last year.

Sarajevo Airport announced that they are working these days on improvements of the terminal building and the runway, in order to increase its capacity and improve services.
