Wizz Air UK will receive Subsidies for Flights from Sarajevo

The Tourism Association of the Canton of Sarajevo has announced that Wizz Air UK is the only carrier, which met all the set conditions, to have applied to the recent airline subsidy call.

Although not specified, it is believed the low cost airline has been granted subsidies for its recently restored service between London Luton and Sarajevo.

London is listed by Sarajevo Airport as one of 26 cities within Europe it has deemed of strategic importance.

Local authorities have allocated some 225.000 euros in total subsidies as part of this public call and the amount an airline can obtain depends on the number of destinations, the type of destinations introduced, as well as the provided frequencies.

Two other companies applied for the public call, including Jordan Aviation, which had previously attempted to establish a base in Sarajevo, as well as Bosnia Airlines. Neither of the two met the tender conditions with the latter lacking proof of being in possession of an Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC).

Local authorities have already launched a fresh subsidy call for airlines, with the main objective being for a carrier to open a base in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s capital, Ex Yu Aviation news reports.
