Woody Harrelson, who will be awarded the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo at the 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival in recognition of his exceptional contribution to the art of cinema and his exceptional acting career, has arrived in Sarajevo.
Michael Winterbottom’s 1997 film Welcome to Sarajevo will be screened at the 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival today, Tuesday, August 18. The film premiered in Cannes the same year as it was shown at the 3rd Sarajevo Film Festival, and in which Harrelson plays one of the main roles. The film is a poignant examination of the war in Bosnia in the mid-1990s and the role of journalists in its media coverage, and is based on journalist Michael Nicholson’s book, Natasha’s Story. The screening of the film will be held at the Coca-Cola Open Air Cinema, in the Open Air programme.
One of the most respected and versatile actors of his generation, whose career has been equally successful in film, television, and theater, Harrelson has received three Academy Award® nominations, including Best Actor in a Leading Role for The People vs. Larry Flyntand Best Supporting Actor nominations for The Messenger and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. He also had a notable role in Ruben Östlund’s Palme d’Or award-winning film Triangle of Sadness.
Today, Tuesday, August 18, at 3 p.m., Harrelson will hold a Masterclass at the Festival Center (Bosnian Cultural Center).
