Within the framework of the project “Development of International Tourist Corridor in South Herzegovina” a workshop was held yesterday in Mostar that presented the project. After that, representatives of the Herzegovinian municipality, tourist organizations, tourist agencies and NGO have discussed the project and provided ideas and suggestions in order to improve its implementation.

During the workshop it was said that, with regard to this type of project, it is necessary to have networking project participants in a regional sense in order to achieve the goals of the project that are based on increasing tourism revenue and the opportunities for employment, as well as establishing a sustainable mechanism for the development of tourism through partnership of the public and private sector.

The Japanese Agency for International Cooperation is financing the project and it will last for three years.

The project focuses on the region of south Herzegovina, taking into account the huge potential of the influx of tourists from Croatia and Montenegro.

Admira Čustović, the advisor for tourism in the city administration of Mostar said that the goal of the project is to attract more guests who spend their vacations in the Dalmatian coast.

“We believe that the implementation of this project will compel guests to stay longer in Herzegovina, unlike the situation today where most visitors stay in Herzegovina one day’’, said Čustović.

Kunihiro Shiraishi, the coordinator for this project, said to journalists that Japan wants to help BiH, among other things, because it offered and lent support to the citizens of Japan after the huge earthquake in the country two years ago.

“Two years ago we had a huge earthquake in Japan, after which around 200 or so countries rushed in to help us, and BiH was among those countries. Due to this, we have a duty to help others now’’, said Shiraishi.
