The unions of the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs and the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) have sent an open letter to the Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Borjana Krišto, stating that her statements are concerning and that they expect her to respect the rule of law, workers’ rights and the institutions of a constitutional state.
We are publishing the open letter in its entirety.
“Dear Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of BiH,
Regarding your media statements about the criminal charges filed by three trade unions.
Your statement that you are not interested in this and that these matters (criminal charges) do not concern you is a worrying indicator of your attitude towards the rule of law, workers’ rights and the institutions of the rule of law.
We remind you that no one, regardless of their position, is above the law, and that criminal charges are a legal mechanism that seeks to establish possible responsibility in accordance with the laws of this country. The trade union does not file charges to “interest” any political official, but rather so that the competent authorities act in accordance with the law. We expect you, as the Chairperson, to respect institutions and the legal order, even when this includes questioning your own actions or the actions of the body you chair. The employees we represent expect accountability, not ignorance.
We will continue to use all available legal and institutional mechanisms to protect their rights, regardless of who is interested or not interested.”
As a reminder, the unions of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA), the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs and the Indirect Taxation Administration of Bosnia and Herzegovina have filed criminal charges with the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH against the highest state officials for failing to adopt the budget of the BiH institutions for 2025.
As they stated in a statement, criminal charges were filed with the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH against the Minister of Finance and Treasury Srđan Amidžić, the Chairwoman of the Council of Ministers Borjana Krišto, and members of the BiH Presidency Željko Komšić, Željka Cvijanović and Denis Bećirović.
