Worth of Watching Documentary Film “The Crimes before the Tribunal: Central Bosnia”

ictyA documentary film “The crimes before the Tribunal: Central Bosnia” made in the production of the Outreach Program of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, which was presented today in Sarajevo, deals with some of the worst atrocities committed against civilians during the Croat-Muslim conflict in Central Bosnia from the beginning of 1993 to early 1994.

The Head of the Outreach Program Nenad Golčevski told reporters before the BiH premiere that the film in a concise and clear way talks about the most horrific crimes committed in the region, the crimes committed by both sides in the conflict but also some of the most important elements in legal terms that have been established through these processes.

This is the fourth feature-length documentary film produced by the Outreach Program, and the goal of all these films is, in a receptive way to bring closer to the people in the former Yugoslavia the work of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).

Golčevski believes that documentaries are a great way to do this because the people, as he said, cannot follow the entire trials, especially one that have already been completed.

“In this way, through documentary films that last about 45 minutes to an hour it is possible to present a large number of facts and important findings of the Tribunal and in some ways maybe stir the interest in people who want more information to look for them,” he said.

The documentary “The crimes before the Tribunal: Central Bosnia” was previously shown in Belgrade and Zagreb, and Golčevski says that the reactions of the audience were positive “in the sense that the people who were at the screening and who were informed about the events during the war believe that the film in a credible and objective manner represented what had happened in this region of Bosnia during the wars of the 1990s”.

“We have had more than five thousand witnesses so far, and this film speaks about five parallel stories of witnesses, each of whom has their own experience,” said Golčevski.

The director of the film “The crimes before the Tribunal: Central Bosnia” is Petar Finci from Sarajevo, and producer is Steve Coulson, and both are employed at the Tribunal.
