A new dish is being sold in Zagreb – cevapi with sour cream in a brioche pastry. As expected, opinions are divided.
Seven days ago, the 12th edition of the Fuliranje fair started on Strossmayer Square in Zagreb, which represents a combination of gastronomy, music and entertainment. This is one of the most visited locations in the city during the winter season, and every year an increasing number of exhibitors arrive.
Influencer Sladjana Ostic shared a video of cevapi with sour cream in a brioche pastry on Instagram. She stated that at first she was disgusted by the idea, but decided to try them anyway. He claims they are not bad at all.
“In a sweet brioche pastry, there are four cevapi and lots of creamy sour cream, and you also get a little onion. What do you say? Of course, you have a sweet version if you don’t like this salty one,” she wrote.
As it is already known, two years ago, Croats invented a new name for cevapi – mljevenici, which caused a large number of reactions.
“The whole story about the name started with the fact that I wanted to show my colleagues and partners the true power of good marketing. Media is media. I believe that if the media repeats something long enough, people will eventually accept it.We deliberately named it ‘mljevenik’ so we would cause reactions. You know, that sounds so typical for Zagreb citizens, Purgeri (the name for Zagreb citizens whose ancestors were born and lived in Zagreb). I knew that and I thought that someone would certainly find it funny, someone would think it is interesting, someone would say that it is not cevap… We didn’t change that name, we just made a dish that looks similar to cevap. After all, they are made from minced meat – so we use term ‘mljevenici’,” the owner of the InstaFood restaurant,Domagoj Delac explained, Klix.ba reports.
