Chinese President Xi Jinping said in a speech at a gathering on the anniversary of the Second World War that today humanity is once again facing the challenge between peace and war, dialogue and confrontation, common prosperity and a zero-sum game.
“The Chinese people unwaveringly stand on the right side of history, on the side of civilization and the progress of humanity, resolutely walk the path of peaceful development, and together with the rest of the world work on building a community with a shared future for all humanity,” he said.
“History warns us that the fate of humanity is intertwined, and that all states and all nations will be able to preserve common security, eradicate the root causes of war, and avoid the repetition of tragedy, only if they treat each other as equals, coexist peacefully, and help one another,” he added.
Historical facts, he said, carry the burden of the past, but also provide inspiration for the future.
“On the path of the new era, members of all ethnic groups in the country, under the resolute leadership of the Communist Party of China, by adhering to Marxism and Leninism, the thought of Mao Zedong, the theory of Deng Xiaoping, the important thought of the ‘Three Represents,’ and the outlook on scientific development, should comprehensively implement the thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, unwaveringly follow the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, inherit and pass on the great spirit of the war of resistance, work persistently and advance courageously, as well as fight unitedly for the building of a powerful state in every respect, through modernization in Chinese style, and also for the goal of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation,” said the Chinese leader.
He added that the process of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is unstoppable and that the noble cause of peace and development of humanity will surely prevail.
Xi Jinping inspected the troops during the military parade on the occasion of the 80th anniversary.
At yesterday‘s parade, 45 formations and echelons marched, most of the equipment and weaponry were displayed to the public for the first time, fully showing the continuation of the spirit of heroic troops from the fight against aggression, the new image of a disciplined people’s army in the new era, the new deployment of force structures, new progress in modernization, as well as new achievements reached in combat readiness.
