yarnbombingThe informal group for knitting called Yarn Bombing Sarajevo presented 33 scarves to the Office for Prevention and Protection of Children at risk yesterday in Sarajevo. The office operates under the disciplinary center for juveniles in Sarajevo Canton.

Elmedin Zuko, Head of the Office and pedagogue Selma Čokalović accepted the scarves. They form a part of the small and dedicated team of this Office who are trying to make life easier for children from socio-economically disadvantaged families, who are forced to work on the streets or are exposed to other forms of exploitation, violence and violation of children’s rights.

The new collective action Yarn Bomging Sarajevo was inspired with the wish to deliver to the poorest children of Sarajevo presents that they could use during the coldest days. Members of this informal group knitted the scarves last month to give to children a symbolic holiday gift and help the work of the Office in this way.

Collective Yarn Boming wishes to remind citizens of Sarajevo on the power of solidarity and on the need for citizen joint efforts within communities, in order to help those who need it the most. Whoever is able to, is asked to donate food, clothes, shoes, toiletries and toys to the Office and to other institutions and organizations.
