The Cantonal Court in Zenica has handed down a first-instance verdict in the “Zenicatrans” case, sentencing Zenica Mayor Fuad Kasumović to four years in prison. Kasumović did not attend the verdict.

In addition to him, ten other people have been charged in this case.

Ahead of the verdict, a large number of citizens gathered in front of the Cantonal Court building in Zenica this morning in support of Kasumović.

The trial in this case began in October 2022, and around 90 hearings have been held so far.

The indictment charged Kasumović and others with conspiracy to commit criminal offenses, abuse of position or authority, forgery of an official document, causing bankruptcy, and negligent performance of duties.

The prosecution charged them with illegally transferring ownership of the Zenicatrans Bus Station to the City of Zenica as an organized group from 2017 to 2020.

According to the plaintiff, this property, the value of which is more than 5.3 million BAM, was transferred on the basis of fictitious debts and unjustified interest, in order to avoid the collection of more than seven million BAM claims of the Tax Administration of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Kasumović defended himself from freedom, and during the trial he continued to perform the function of mayor.
