Zvizdić-Stoltenberg Meeting held, what are the Conclusions?

denis_zvizdic_jens_stoltenbergChairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Denis Zvizdić met today in Brussels with the Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg. During the meeting, Chairman Zvizdić said that the full membership in NATO is a strategic foreign policy aim of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Zvizdić emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina is committed to promoting peace, stability, security and prosperity in the region and globally, and that it is devoted to strengthening of cooperation in the field of defense and security and cooperation aimed at integration of the region in EU and Euro-Atlantic integration.

Zvizdić informed Stoltenberg about the process of fulfilling conditions for activation of the Membership Action Plan. He emphasized that BiH strives to meet the conditions from Tallinn so that NATO could reach a decision on activation of MAP as soon as possible. Zvizdić also informed Stoltenberg about the progress achieved in Bosnia and Herzegovina lately.

Secretary General Stoltenberg praised the progress in BiH regarding the implementation of tasks for activation of MAP and stressed out that conditions agreed upon in Tallinn must be entirely met. Furthermore, Stoltenberg said that NATO and BiH nave a joint interest, which is the strengthening of cooperation in the field of security. He thanked BiH for participation in the NATO mission in Afghanistan, where 55 members of the Armed Forces of BiH are stationed at this moment.

Chairman Zvizdić said that BiH should become a member of NATO not only because of the guarantee of internal security, but also because of the fact that by adjusting to the standards and values that NATO promotes BiH will become a country where democracy, rule of law and respect for human rights are permanent.

Zvizdić said that, through participation in NATO activities, BiH is actively preparing to be a credible, prepared and serious ally in the future, as well as an additional value for this Alliance. Moreover, Zvizdić said that he expects the activation of the MAP at the next NATO summit.
