“1 March Coalition”: To Seek Institutional Protection and Prepare for Local Elections in 2016

prvimart400x300Annual conference of the associations, member of the civil coalition “1 March” was held in Sarajevo on the occasion of two years of existence of this coalition of civil society organizations.

In the working guidelines defined for the next two years, up to the local elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2016, it is stated that the Coalition will seek continued cooperation with the elected representatives in the National Assembly of RS, the Council of Peoples in RS and the BiH Parliamentary Assembly, and elected representatives of returnees in the executive branch with regular consultation and coordinated action to address the problems of returnees.

The focus of this coalition will be ensuring voting rights for displaced persons who vote in the Federation of BiH, registration of residence of returnees and identification of voters abroad.

The coalition will work to protect civil liberties and fight against discrimination in access to education, health, employment and other public services.

It will work on forming permanent local coordination teams in: Bosanska Gradiška, Prijedor, Banja Luka, Modriča, Doboj, Bijeljina, Zvornik, Rogatica, Višegrad, Bratunac and Srebrenica, which will ensure constant awareness, linking communities with the media, institutions and individuals interested in cooperation and support.

They will discuss work with associations dealing with vulnerable returnees to the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well.

Almir Salihović was elected program coordinator of the Coalition “1 March”. He said that they plan to work on expanding the activities of the coalition in individual municipalities throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina through the preparation for the local elections in 2016.

Participants of the conference were by the FBiH Minister for Displaced Persons and Refugees Adil Osmanović and creator of the idea to form the coalition Emir Suljagić, as well as representatives of associations, parties, and other guests.
