After receiving information about suspicious cargo found in a freight motor vehicle with a trailer, which was found by police officers of the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina using specialist equipment, the duty prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH issued an order that the suspect be deprived of his freedom, that the vehicle be searched and that the smuggled cigarettes in the amount of about 26,750 boxes, the estimated market value of which is more than BAM 100,000, be seized.

The duty prosecutor ordered the detention and interviewing of the suspected driver, who is a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina and who is suspected of committing the criminal offence of smuggling under Article 214 of the Criminal Code of BiH. After performing necessary activities, police officers of the BiH Border Police will submit to the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH a report against the aforementioned suspect.

The police officers of the Border Police of BiH were assisted and supported in their work by officers of the Indirect Taxation Authority (ITA) of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, together with partner police and security agencies, is carrying out a number of activities in the fight against smuggling of high-tariff goods across the state border of BiH, as criminal offences that damage the budget and all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
