Today, the Health Insurance Fund (HIF) of Republika Srpska will pay 200.000 BAM for financing the costs of operation for the three-year old Sofija Mićević from Banja Luka.
The Fund will pay the money to the health care institution “John Hopkins” in Baltimore for Sofija’s, who is suffering from acute leukemia.
According to the information received from the bank, a procedure of transaction of money from a bank account in RS to the banks in the United States will last two days maximum.
The Fund fully finances the cost of Sofija’s treatment in Serbia, and by the end of last year, the Fund allocated 110,000 BAM.
For 2017, the fund plans to allocate two million BAM for various treatments abroad.
“We are aware that this is not enough money, because, unfortunately, the need for expensive treatments abroad is increasing, but in a situation where the fund is exclusively financed by the payment of contributions for health insurance, we are not able to allocate more funds “, is announced from the HIF.
The Fund considers that it is necessary to establish a special fund in the RS that will solely fund treatments abroad.
“We appeal the health insurance contributions to be regularly paid, because only in that way a fund can quickly and timely respond to all situations, including the financing of expensive operations abroad,” is said from Fund.
