With the help of calls that the citizens make, in the first quarter of this year the Cantonal Public Utility Company “Rad” registered three to five bites per month by rabid, sick and aggressive dogs, said the spokesman of this enterprise Mirza Ramić.
According to injunctions received from the Cantonal Veterinary Station, the KJKP “Rad” caught 119 aggressive, mad and sick dogs (January 15, February 18, March 49 and April 27) and handed them over to the Veterinary Station for further procedure,” said Ramić.
Ramić highlighted that KJKP “Rad” is a mediator in the execution of operations of the Cantonal Veterinary Station.
“Given that we receive around 100 calls every day by citizens who complain about aggressive, sick and mad dogs in the communities where they live, we operate in accordance with injunctions which we receive from the Cantonal Veterinary Station,” Ramić said.
When vet stations send notices to “Rad” about the number of free spots in their units, then these dogs are being caught. Stray dogs are not stationary; they must be followed, located, and then caught. They are then handed over to the Cantonal Veterinary Station for processing. Upon taking over the dogs, the Cantonal Veterinary Station runs some detailed tests to decide whether the sick, mad and aggressive dog is for castration or euthanasia, both of which are conducted in their stations,” Ramić said, adding: “It happens quite often that, if dogs attack people, we promptly get out on the field, catch those dogs and hand them over to the Veterinary Station for further procedure,” Ramić said.
“The fact is that capacities of vet stations are small and real needs exceed that capacity several times. The asylum in Prača is the only asylum with greater capacity and the one which can solve the problem, accommodate the caught dogs in adequate way and treat them in accordance with the law about humane treatment of animals, until the moment they are adopted,” Ramić said.
