sergeThe Hague Tribunal (ICTY) is about to close by the end of this year. The items that remain unfinished will be completed through the so-called Mechanism for International Courts, which will be led by Serge Brammertz, Chief Prosecutor.

Brammertz  points out that his priority is the expeditious completion of trials and appeals. Speaking about the “Stanisic and Simatovic” trial, the trial will be repeated and it will start on June 13th. Moreover, the appellate proceedings filed by the Prosecution and the “Seselj” case, will be expected to be the second instance verdict at the end of this or early next year.

In the “Mladic” case, Brammertz expects the possibility of appeal.

“As I mentioned in the last report to the Security Council, which I submitted at the end of 2016, we have adequate access to documents, archives and witnesses in all three countries – Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Croatia and Serbia. Regarding unresolved orders in cases of non-compliances of the Courtin the  “Jojic et al.” case, the tribunal president presented this issue to the UN Security Council and expect that he will certainly do so again in his next report.

On the other hand, speaking about cooperation with BiH, Brammertz said that there are no open questions.

“We are working very well with the BiH authorities, and we have confirmed this in the last report to the Security Council,” Brammertz added.
