At the Old Town Jezerski, which is located in the municipality of Bosanska Krupa, the restoration of the building and surroundings is currently taking place, with the aim of putting into operation this important historical heritage in tourism development.
Old Town Jezerski is located about 4 kilometers away from Bosanska Otoka, and it was declared in 2003 as national monument of great historical importance for BiH, on which the decision was adopted by the Commission to preserve national monuments.
In recent days, conservation works and landscaping are carried out on the object, as well as works on access roads, in order to create the conditions to put the object into operation.
Ministry of Construction, Urban Planning and Environmental Protection of the Una-Sana Canton (USC) supported this project in the amount of 20,000 BAM from the funds of ecological compensations for the year of 2015.
“Our ministry is only one in the FBiH that allocates significant funds from environmental compensation to lower levels of government, in proportion to the number of pollutants. Together with the municipality of Bosanska Krupa, we restored Old Town Jezerski, which will certainly contribute to a better tourist offer of our Canton,” said Tahir Nuhic, the Minister of Construction, Urban Planning and Environmental Protection of the Una-Sana Canton (USC).
Old Town Jezerski was mentioned for the first time back in 1278. In terms of construction, this city is very interesting representative of specific types of old towns, from which later developed more perfect fortresses. In the middle of Jezerski was placed a high round tower, with wall thickness of 1.8 meters and the entrance elevated 4 meters above the ground. Around the tower was sturdy and 7 meters high wall in the form of a rectangle, with the length of 16 meters and width of 12 meters.
The castle was built before the invention of firearms, which is proved by round shape hole in the wall that served for archery, and it was also mentioned by name Castrum Hiesera.
At the end of the 15th century, as masters of Jezerski were mentioned Nemcic’s, and according to an old church records, it belonged to the Zagreb County. Jezerski came under Ottoman rule in 1576, and it was included in captaincy of Krupa.
