In the context of this year’s World Environment Day, two current information in the field of nature and environmental protection can be provided – on the endangerment of species, and the health of the population.

According to the first, in the last three months, six bears have been lost in Bosnia and Herzegovina, three in each of the BiH entities, as announced by the Environmental Center from Banja Luka, Avaz news portal reports.

The center states the opinion of ecologists that this shows how necessary it is to have clear protocols on how to act in such and similar situations, and to form an intervention team.

Other information refers to the formation of an expert team for the fight against waste disposal near Bosnia and Herzegovina’s border on Trgovska Gora in Croatia, which would endanger about 250 thousand inhabitants in 13 municipalities in the Una River Basin.

It is an expert team of 21 people from the competent ministries and areas, with a unified position from BiH in order to prevent the intention of neighboring Croatia to build a landfill right next to the BiH border.

The theme for last year’s World Environment Day was “Let’s beat air pollution”.

World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated on 5 June every year, and is the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of our environment.

First held in 1974, it has been a flagship campaign for raising awareness on emerging from environmental issues to marine pollution, human overpopulation, and global warming, to sustainable consumption and wildlife crime.

World Environment Day has grown to become a global platform for public outreach, with participation from over 143 countries annually.

Each year, WED has provided a new theme that major corporations, NGOs, communities, governments and all celebrities worldwide adopt to advocate environmental causes.
