The Department of International Relations and European Studies at International Burch University organized an online lecture and discussion with the U.S. Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Eric Nelson.

After the introductory part, ambassador spoke with the University management about potential cooperation and future joint projects that would reduce problems such as unemployment and the departure of young people from Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also encourage entrepreneurial initiatives and success.

Ambassador Nelson gave a presentation to students on the topic: “From Competition to Collaboration:” Reframing business and international relationships “, with the aim of encouraging networking and working together to achieve positive change. Moreover, ambassador Nelson stressed the importance of connecting with people with common interests stating that:

“More communication will allow you to be even more surrounded by the people you want to work with, as I did with you”.

After the presentation, students opened a discussion by asking many questions, receiving direct responses from Mr. Nelson’s own perspective. Students from different departments and from different spheres of social and scientific life joined the discussion and showed their interest in the progress and positive changes of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Through the session, the importance of media has been emphasized as a basic tool for exchanging information and strengthening cooperation between the states, in this case, the United States of America and Bosnia and Herzegovina, underlining the support of media through special funds.

“The media, especially the research media, play a key role in educating and informing citizens as well as the global strengthening of democracy and transparency,” ambassador pointed out.”

“I am happy because International Burch University provides great opportunities to its students and I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in the discussion with the ambassador. This meeting was very productive for students. I sincerely hope that it will also contribute to the mission of the U.S. Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina in its efforts to build a stable society, develop international cooperation and exchange experiences, “ said Selma Turčinović, a student from the Department of Management.

In order to achieve long-term positive effects and a productive environment for our younger generations, it is necessary to achieve good cooperation and introduce changes. Rector of International Burch University Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mersid Poturak concluded by pointing out:

“The discussion with ambassador Nelson was inspiring for future cooperation, which, in order to cause really big and positive changes, must include academia, management, governmental and non-governmental organizations, with the aim of creating better opportunities for young people by transforming the education system, developing entrepreneurship and innovation.ˮ
