blidinjeThe FBIH Ministry of Environment and Tourism, as part of the project “Protected Forest and Mountainous Areas’’, gave 165.000 KM to Park Blidinje, which was donated by the Global Fund for Environment (GEF).

The funds were provided for five new projects that would create new jobs at Blidinje Park and strengthen economic ties.

The natural Park Blidinje covers mountain ranges Čvrsnice, Čabulje and Vrana and covers municipalities of Mostar, Posušje, Tomislavgrad, Prozor-Rama and Jablanica.

“In addition to the activities that are planned with the new projects, such as the return of beekeepers and the extension of areas for the breeding of sheep, work is underway for the improvement of ski trails, for which this park is known and on the construction of buildings and signs in the park’’, said to Fena the Director of the Park Zdravko Kutle.

Kutle announced the construction of bike paths that would begin this month and would be 25 kilometers long, and will be financed by funds from GEF.

“The arrival of GEF program that is implemented by the Swedish Bank, Ministry of Environment and FBIH Tourism enabled Blidinje to make a breakthrough in the contents of protected areas and to bring purpose and make a distinction from the previous perception of Blidinje such as skiing’’, said Kutle.

In this park they will park to raise the level of security, the asphalting of road sections that are still gravel and to continue activities around expanding bicycle paths in the park, trails and education programs for the local population, which would be a priority job, announced the Director of the Park.

Blidinje area is a natural phenomenon, which contains many endemic species of flora and fauna with many sources of clean, drinking water. This area is known as one of the largest habitats of endemic whitebark pine.
