Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bisera Turkovic, held a meeting with the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Ukraine in Sarajevo, Serhiy Miniail, at which the case of pilot Samir Beganovic from Cazin who died 26 years ago was discussed.

Minister Turkovic initiated a meeting to try to find the remains of the first pilot of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who, according to available information, died when a Ukrainian plane carrying Beganovic as a co-pilot was shot down on August 1, 1994 in the Plitvice Lakes region, Klix.ba news portal reports,

The Minister informed the charge d’affaires that our country is extremely interested in finding the remains of Beganovic, who, according to the latest information, are in Ukraine.

She emphasized that finding the remains of the pilot and transferring them to Bosnia and Herzegovina would bring peace to the Beganovic family after more than two and a half decades.

Chargé d’Affaires Miniailo said that he would check all the information related to this case, and that the Embassy of Ukraine would make efforts to resolve this case.

Other important issues between the two countries were also discussed during the meeting. It was pointed out that Ukraine is interested in the development and improvement of relations, and added that peace and stability are very important for this country. The meeting discussed agreements on tourism and visa liberalization, to which Ukraine is awaiting a response from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
