17 Years Since the Foundation of the ‘Pavarotti’ Centre in Mostar Marked

pavarotti (2)The music centre ‘Pavarotti’ in Mostar marked these days 17 years since its founding. A special ceremony during which cultural activities of this institutions were presented was held in order to mark the 21st December 1997, the day when the Centre was open. It was also the day that made Mostar and B&H the centre of attention in the world media. But, this time, it wasn’t related to the war and post-war reality but to the visit of the famous Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti, the mega star BonoVox and their friends.

The golden age of the Pavarotti centre is today in the past.

Its director, Elvedin Nezirović, says that “the activities of the centre are alive more thanks to the enthusiasm of the people working there than to the real possibilities”.

“The centre has the same faith like most other cultural institutions in B&H. In terms of financing, the Pavarotti centre is financed by the town of Mostar which is officially its founder but the town pays minimally, it barely covers the most minimal salaries. So, everything else, including workshops and all necessary costs, is in a sad way something for what the employees find money on their own.” – said Nezirović.
