At least 21 people, including 13 children, were killed and dozens injured Saturday in an Israeli airstrike on a school housing displaced Palestinians in the Zeitoun neighborhood of Gaza City, the Gaza Government Media Office said.

The announcement states that 21 Palestinians, including 13 children, and six women, one of whom was pregnant, were killed in the airstrike.

“Another 30 people were injured in the attack, including nine children,” the announcement states.

The office announced that since the start of the Israeli offensive on Gaza, 181 centers for displaced persons have been targeted by Israeli forces.

A medical source at Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza City told Anadolu agency that the victims were brought to the hospital after the attack on the school, which housed hundreds of displaced families.

Eyewitnesses said that an Israeli airstrike hit the Asqoula area in the Zeitoun neighborhood, causing casualties among those who sought refuge in the school.

The Israeli military admitted it had targeted the school, claiming it was being used as a “command and control center” by Hamas.

In violation of a United Nations Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire, Israel has faced international condemnation amid its continued brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip since the October 7, 2023, attack by the Palestinian group Hamas.

Since then, Israeli attacks on Gaza have killed more than 41,300 Palestinians, mostly women and children.

Israel has been accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice., AA writes.
