BiH expects return of thousands of its citizens who have been denied asylum in some of the EU countries. About 3,300 people should return only from Germany.

In an agreement signed between BiH and the EU on readmission of persons who are residing without a permit 10 years ago, BiH promised to re-accept its citizens who did not fulfil conditions requested by the country that filed a request for readmission.

Currently, everything is empty in the Readmission Center in Mostar, which can accommodate around 100 people.

“This is the only readmission center in BiH at the moment and our citizens will receive all the required help upon their arrival,” said Edin Benjo, the Head of the Readmission Center in Mostar.

“There are no reliable data on the exact number, but we can talk about the approximate number of 30,000 citizens of BiH who have to return. A total of 5,500 people returned in the period from 2013 to 2017. It is certain that number of returns from Sweden, Switzerland, France, Austria and Belgium was increased, and the increase of returns from Italy is expected in the future period as well,” noted Lipjankic.
