In a joint statement issued on Saturday, 34 countries contributing to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) called for the protection of UN peacekeepers amid rising tensions in the region.

The countries, including Brazil, China, France, Turkey, and the United Kingdom (UK), reaffirmed their “full support for the UNIFIL mission” to achieve stability in southern Lebanon and promote peace.

The statement, initiated by Poland, condemned the recent attacks on peacekeeping forces.

“Such actions must cease immediately and be properly investigated,” the statement emphasized.

All parties were urged to respect UNIFIL’s presence and ensure the safety of its personnel.

“We reaffirm our commitment to multilateral cooperation with the UN at its core. We call for respect for international law, particularly the UN Charter and relevant Security Council resolutions,” the statement concluded.
