49 Trucks of Aid collected in BiH for the People of Syria

The International Solidarity Forum EMMAUS is organizing the activity of collecting aid for the people of Syria in cooperation with the Mufti units of Gorazde and Sarajevo. Humanitarian activities for people who are living in refugee camps in Syria without any conditions for normal life already took place in other parts of BiH.

“We collected around 49 trucks of aid. The aid packages included flour, oil, and diapers and the packages were successfully delivered to refugee camps in Syria, with the help of our partner organization from Turkey, the IHH organization,” said Edina Subasic, coordinator for development and cooperation in EMMAUS.

She also noted that citizens of BiH went through similar suffering, especially the city of Gorazde, and its citizens were denied food and medical assistance during the war. Nearly half a million people in Syria lost their lives while millions of them are displaced, according to some unofficial data, and according to data by UNICEF, about 280,000 children live in areas that are exposed to constant bombardment. The fact that over six million children live in refugee camps in Syria exclusively from humanitarian aid is overwhelming. Edina Subasic also noted that she has visited several refugee camps in Syria, which are located on the border with Turkey.

“We saw this as an opportunity to help people in need, an opportunity to show how much that help meant to us during the time of aggression on BiH, and to thank all those people who helped us in a practical way,” said Dzenan ef. Imamovic, secretary of the Mufti unit of Gorazde.

He also recalled that they are collecting only flour, oil and diapers for children and adults within the humanitarian activity. Due to technical reasons, these products have to be produced in BiH, for the purpose of exemption from customs and other duties. Those who want to help the people of Syria can get all the necessary information in the Mufti of Gorazde or the office of the International Solidarity Forum EMMAUS in Gorazde.
