7.5 Hectares of Flax planted This Year in Bosanski Petrovac

linen seedlingsAccording to the evidence of the Service for Agriculture, 7.5 hectares of flax has been planted this year in Bosanski Petrovac.

Three agricultural producers in Bosanski Petrovac reported to the Municipal service for agriculture planting of flax, that is sown in three plots, farms of Radisic Jovica and Kerkez Vojina are sown with 2 hectares, and the farm of Latinovic Miodrag by 3.5 hectares.

Flax seed is one of the most important sources of dried oils. There are data that flax has been grown in that purpose even 6.000 years ago. Content of oil in the seed is from 32% to 43%. Flax oil is usually being used for the production of paints, varnishes, soft soaps and printing inks.

The plant that has been forgotten for a long time in this region, started to be sown in Bosanski Petrovac in 2010, and first plots of one hectare were planted in 2011.

Yields of flax proved to be very good in Bosanski Petrovac, so in the previous five years, areas sown by the flax increased for seven times, as announced from the Department of public relations of the Municipality Bosanski Petrovac.
