Jakarina Kosa Exhumation rtvusk.baDuring past two months, 80 individual remains were exhumed at the locality of the mass grave Jakarina Kosa in the Municipality Prijedor, and complete remains of one person were found today, announced the Prosecutor’s Office of B&H.

The exhumation at this locality will be continued in the coming period as well.

“This location is an extremely extensive and complex area for searching, where a large number of remains of victims from the Prijedor area is expected to be found, and the situation is further complicated by the presence of unexploded mines and explosive devices which are located at this site”, it was said in the statement.

The recovered remains were transported to the Krajina Identification Project (KIP) Sejkovaca in Sanski Most, where the forensic processing will be performed, as well as sampling of bones in order to ascertain the identity of the victims and determine the cause of death by DNA analysis.

“The process of exhumation at this location is being directly managed by the authorized investigator of the Special Department for War Crimes of the Prosecutor’s Office of B&H under the supervision of the prosecutor in charge, while the officials of the Institute for Missing Persons of B&H, a forensic expert, necessary workers and machinery are all involved in the process of searching and exhumation of the remains, as well as the police officers of the PSC Prijedor, who secure the location, and anthropologists and archaeologists. The technical aspects of exhumation works, due to their complexity, are supervised by an expert in mining profession – a doctor of mining sciences and surveyors”, the statement of the Prosecutor’s Office of B&H said.
