Member of the BiH Presidency Željko Komšić opened the 9th international forum for transitional justice on Jahorina yesterday called “Reconciliation in Post-Yugoslav Countries”, which has over 200 participants from the entire region, among which are international officials, experts, artists and representatives of nonprofit organizations.
“After 18 years of war this topic is still current, and the question is why we need so much time for reconciliation and whether it is a short period of time or a long one for reconciliation. I believe that the continuation of this forum will come to an answer to this question”, said Komšić.
Stating that there is often a need for the Europeanization of our society as the basis of the process is essentially the normalization of our social relations and democratization of the political environment.
He said that in BiH they have failed to normalize social relations because ”they are competing now more than ever on an ethnic, politics and existentialist level”.
He is convinced that reconciliation among people has seen more progress than among the politicians and “is much more than can be seen from the version served by the political reality that we see on TV shows and political debate that dominate the media space”.
Therefore, he points out that it is especially important for the mutual understanding of people in BiH society.
“How do we talk about reconciliation when in BiH we are not ready to accept the simple fact and universal value that all people are born equal, that they have to have all the rights as citizens of this country regardless of their origin or ethnic origin”, concluded Komšić.
As a member of REKOM, which is organizing the forum, Director Dino Mustafić said that because of the current generation of children, we have a moral imperative to build peace and reconciliation, to normalize relations of people in the region so that future generations of young people who never repeat the cruelty toward those of a different ethnicity and religious affiliation.
During the two-day conference, ”participants will meet with transitional justice, which sets before us a number of dilemmas and issues”.
Thus, representatives of countries in the region at the forum will present the achievements of transitional justice in post-Yugoslav countries, while representatives of religious communities will demonstrate the reconciliation from the perspective of religious communities.
In the National Theatre in Sarajevo participants of the forum will have the opportunity to see the play by Director Dino Mustafić called “If this were a movie”.
