A beautiful Love Story of a Man from Zenica and a Mexican Woman

Adi Sivro Love Story radiosarajevo.baAdi Sivro spent two years on the ship. He visited the Caribbean, Mexico, Jamaica, Bahamas, Puerto Rico, the USA, Honduras, Belize…

“Life on a ship is not easy at all. You learn to live very fast, in accordance with strictly defined rules, and to work for ten or more hours a day, seven days in a week, and do so for the next eight months. On the other side, it is a life experience which gave me a opportunity to meet the cultures of other peoples, earn money and gain a rich life experience. I visited some of the most beautiful and most rich destinations on the planet”, Adi Sivro said.

Prior to the work on the cruises itself, Sivro lived in Germany, where he learned and mastered the language. After some time spent in Germany, he eventually decided to return to B&H. That is where he heard of the cruisers, and started researching.

“During that time I was employed here, but out of pure curiosity I applied to the agency that employs workers and, to my great surprise, they responded. Six months later, I was flying to Miami”, Sivro recalls.

During two years of working on the cruiser, he experienced a lot. There were anecdotes, adventures, and finally – love.

“On the last ship where I’ve been, around 5.000 guests took turn every week. There were 1.500 employees on the ship, and it gives you an opportunity to hear and see very interesting things. In October 2014, I’ve been on the Carnival Magic ship, where there was an Ebola outbreak case.

One of the things that tired me the most were dozens of guests who asked me every day – how is it that you come from two countries? (Bosnia and Herzegovina), since every employee wears a badge with the name, position, and the name of the country from where the employee comes from.

However, the most interesting thing that happened to me is when I met my now already wife, who is Mexican. With her I enjoyed the most beautiful tourist destinations. Maintaining a relationship on a ship is, let me say, equally hard as the work itself, you go through a lot of temptations. After the terminated contracts and going home, it is very difficult to meet on the same ship again. However, with strong desire and effort, nothing is impossible, so we managed to maintain the relationship and plan the future.

After all, I decided and proposed her on the Caribbean islands, and upon return to B&H we got married and stayed here for several months. I have no intention to go back on the cruises for now, because I’ve got other plans  – to live on the ground, as we mariners say, with my wife”, said this 28-year-old man from Zenica.
