There are no open issues between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Azerbaijan, and good political relations should be the basis for improving economic ties and increasing overall foreign trade, it was pointed out at the meeting of BiH Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Staša Košarac and Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov in Sarajevo.

At the meeting, it was pointed out that today’s official visit of the delegation of Azerbaijan is the result of the meeting and diplomatic activities of the presiding member of the BiH Presidency, Željka Cvijanović, and the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, during the recent meeting in Baku.

Košarac and Jabbarov noted that there is an open space for improving economic cooperation, especially in the fields of agriculture, tourism and energy. They also pointed out the importance of connecting businessmen in mutual interest.

In this regard, it was agreed to form a joint working group of representatives of the Republic of Azerbaijan and competent bodies of the Republika Srpska and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as institutions at the level of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The task of the joint working group will be to consider specific models of cooperation in the sectors of agriculture, tourism and energy.

The interlocutors expressed their determination to intensify activities on signing a memorandum on economic cooperation and cooperation in the tourism sector, which will be a good regulatory framework for strengthening bilateral relations.

When it comes to foreign trade exchange with Azerbaijan, Minister Košarac pointed out that in 2022 BiH recorded an increase in imports and exports compared to the previous year. He emphasized that BiH imports the most oil from Azerbaijan, and that it exports the most medicines to this country.

The delegation of Azerbaijan particularly expressed its interest in investments in the energy sector and tourism, and in continuing the import of medicines and aluminum from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Jabbarov invited Košarac to visit the Republic of Azerbaijan in the coming period.
