A memorial plaque to the young doctors – Azra Spahić and Alma Suljić, tragically killed in a traffic accident at Marijin Dvor, was unveiled today at the scene of the accident in Dolina Street. Parents, family members, numerous friends and colleagues paid their respects to the victims and placed candles in front of the memorial plaque.
In front of the memorial plaque on which is carved the text: “There are lives that last a short time, and much more they leave and give…”, although visibly shaken, the parents of Azra and Alma found the strength to call on the competent authorities to act so that something like this should not happen to anyone and would never do it again.
Adela Suljić, the mother of the victim Alma, pointed out that the plaque was not made to remind the family of their tragedy, but to be a permanent reminder to everyone.
“We live our tragedy every day, every hour and every minute. This commemorative plaque should serve as a reminder to all of us, all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, to be aware of the problems in our society and to do everything in our power to try to change things- not to get into vehicles drunk and drugged, not to drive over the limit , so that things like this would not happen to anyone again,” she said.
Alma’s father, Edin Suljić, said that it is time to put an end to street races, kabadahs and drivers without a driver’s license, who drive vehicles under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
He warned that we continue to witness irresponsible and arrogant behavior every day, expressing the expectation that the culprits of this and similar tragedies will be severely sanctioned.
Aida Spahić, mother of the victim Azra, told reporters that nothing can lessen the pain and sadness of the family, and that she is shocked by the fact that nothing has changed in the meantime.
“Obviously, nothing has changed, which terrifies me. My mind can no longer comprehend it. Last night I was at the place where a woman was hit at the ‘Eternal Fire’,” warned Spahić.
The unveiling of the memorial plaque was attended by representatives of the city authorities, led by Mayor Benjamina Karić, who also paid their respects and laid candles at the place where two young lives were tragically lost, Fena news agency writes.
