A new boycott of stores in Bosnia and Herzegovina due to high prices has been announced for Friday, February 14, and citizens are urged to refrain from making any purchases.
Organizers are calling on citizens to rationalize spending on other days, avoid purchasing perishable products, avoid purchasing items that have increased in price the most, buy only essential groceries, and not buy anything on Friday.
“Aware that the previous shopping boycott on Friday, January 31, was much more successful than the current multi-day boycott, the administrators and moderators of this group, in consultation with the members of this group, believe that it is necessary to return to the tried and tested recipe and carry out the boycott every Friday of the week,” the organizers wrote on their Facebook page ‘Bojkot.ba’.
This will be the third Friday of the boycott of stores in BiH.
As the boycott comes on Valentine’s Day, the action is being held with the message – “With love for good prices!”.
The boycott has already brought some changes – lowering and freezing prices of certain products, as well as discounts and promotions in certain stores.
With the aim of alleviating the pressure on consumers’ living standards, the Federal Minister of Trade Amir Hasičević held a meeting with representatives of the Association of Employers from the Trade Sector, domestic manufacturers and the processing industry, as well as the Consumer Association and the Trade Workers’ Union, at which it was agreed to continue the project of reduced and locked prices of basic food and hygiene products.
The traders offered a working version of the list of “50+20 items” in order to make the most necessary foodstuffs available, above all, to socially sensitive categories.
At the same time, the FBiH Tax Administration announced how much was spent on Friday and Saturday, during the two-day boycott of stores.
According to these data, on February 6 this year, a total turnover of 205,226,808.31 BAM was recorded in the territory of the Federation of BiH. The turnover in shops in the territory of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina on that day amounted to a total of 105,339,993.86 BAM.
On Friday, February 7, the total turnover in the territory of the Federation of BiH was recorded in the amount of 190,144,339.49 BAM. Turnover in stores in the territory of the Federation of BiH on that day amounted to a total of 93,549,831.65 BAM.
On Saturday, February 8, the total turnover in the territory of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina amounted to 73,735,142.18 BAM. Turnover in stores in the territory of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina that day amounted to a total of 47,738,989.66 BAM.
