Bojan Bosnjak, Adna Mesihovic, and Enda Pavic-Pecenkovic. These are three out of a total of 12 ministers in the Canton Sarajevo (CS) Government who have been arrested on suspicion of criminal offenses committed while performing their duties.
Bosnjak was the Minister of Communal Affairs, and Mesihovic is still the current Minister of Higher Education, even though she is in detention, while Pavic-Pecenkovic was arrested yesterday and is also expected to end up behind bars.
As it has been learned, the police and the prosecutor’s office will not stop here, as investigations are already underway in other cases, so further operational actions are expected in the coming period, which could target officials of the CS Government.
All the cases involve corrupt activities: from illegal employment, abuse of office, money laundering, and other criminal offenses.
The investigations and arrests of cantonal ministers show that the current government composition is indeed riddled with corruption and that this government too – no matter how much it swears by transparency, responsible service to citizens, and honesty – is not immune to one of the greatest plagues of Bosnian and Herzegovinian (BiH) society: corruption.
The arrested ministers come from Our Party, For New Generations, and the SDP.
Also, these specific investigations and arrests indicate that the prosecutor’s office and police in Sarajevo are doing their job without too much political interference, as it is unprecedented on the BiH political scene for three ministers of one government to be arrested in less than a year, Klix.ba writes.
