After a two-Year Break, ”Cimburijada” held in Zenica

The first day of spring was welcomed by the people of Zenica on Kamberovica polje, on the shores of river Bosna, and with the traditional dish cimbur – after a two-year break due to the pandemic. The key ingredient of cimbur is the egg, and the egg is a symbol of life that awakens with spring– that is one of the interpretations that accompanies this tradition.

”It has been a tradition for years, for hundreds of years. We younger ones inherited that, but we have a lot of experience. And I would like the Cimburijada to stay and survive,” said Anto Sakic – Staka.

For Safet Alispahic, it doesn’t matter if it’s cold, raining, or snowing: “It can’t stop us, we’re used to it and we will do it as long as we are alive and healthy.”

After decades of the spontaneous gathering of Zenica residents on the shores of river Bosna to meet the spring, the Zenica Citizens’ Forum has partly formalized the tradition by organizing a series of events, which precede the first day of spring and the Cimburijada. So this year, among other things, they chose the most beautiful photos of the city with a competition called “Zenica as I love”. There was also a competition for the best-prepared cimbur.

Forum activists are going a step further. At the time of the pandemic, when there was no gathering with the cimbur, they used it to protect the Cimburijada in a unique way.
