After more than 60 Years, the Reconstruction of Tram Line begins in Sarajevo

After more than 60 years, the reconstruction of the tram line on the section Marijin Dvor - Ilidza begins.

Today, the Minister of Transport of Sarajevo Canton, Adnan Steta, signed an agreement with a consortium of two companies from China - China Shandong International Economic & Technical Cooperation Group Ltd. and China Railway No.10 Enginerring Group, which will work on the reconstruction of the tram line in Sarajevo. The total value of the contract is 20.4m euros.

As it was pointed out after the signing of the contract, the reconstruction project is divided into six functional units and it envisages the reconstruction of the railway from Marijin Dvor to Ilidža, with a total length of 21.4 kilometers., Sa-C reports.

"This is a great day for Sarajevo, because after more than 60 years, for the first time, the entire Marijin Dvor - Ilidža railway is being renovated. Today's signing of this important contract is proof that we continue to fulfill the promises we made and that we will continue to work in the interest of all citizens. improving public city transport ", said Minister Šteta and added that the contractor will be introduced to the work no later than 28 days from the day of signing the contract.

The companies that will work on the reconstruction of the Sarajevo railway have so far been engaged in large projects around the world and both have a significant number of references in their portfolios when it comes to the construction of demanding railway projects.

Funds for the implementation of the railway reconstruction project were provided through a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), according to whose rules the procedure for selecting contractors was carried out.
