Ahmetovic: Dodik and Covic should be sanctioned for trying to split the State

Adis Ahmetovic, a member of the German SPD and the Bundestag, has been warning for months that ethnonationalism forces are trying to destabilize Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). In an interview, Ahmetovic spoke on the topic of the Bundestag resolution on the political crisis in BiH.

”The SPD stands by BiH and is committed to stability and peace in the region. That is why we have been working intensively for weeks with parliamentary groups to develop proposals that will have to adopt as soon as possible. I am grateful to my party for the role I, as a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the main rapporteur of the SPD parliamentary group for the Western Balkans, have in writing the proposal. I am especially grateful to my colleagues Dietmar Nietan (SPD), Thomas Hacker (FDP), and Boris Mijatovic (The Greens), for their good cooperation on the Committee on Foreign Affairs,” Ahmetovic said.

”The position of the Federal Government and the Bundestag in relation to the Western Balkans, especially BiH, has never been clearer. Chancellor Scholz wants to launch an accelerated accession to the European Union (EU) and integrate the six Balkan countries. He is unreservedly committed to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of BiH,” he emphasized.

The resolution document, obtained by the Istraga.ba portal, states that the “principle of legitimate representation” should be rejected and that the creation of the third entity in question would jeopardize the territorial integrity of BiH.

Since the general elections in BiH have been called, but the money for their implementation has not been provided yet, Ahmetovic supports the views of the High Representative in our country that financing the elections is a legal obligation, and that the Council of Ministers is obliged to approve the money.

”We support the High Representative Christian Schmidt and share his views. Elections in the fall of 2022 in BiH will be held. All necessary measures will be taken. We as the SPD and I as the main rapporteur of his parliamentary group for the Western Balkans also made this very clear last Wednesday when Schmidt was a guest of the Committee on Foreign Affairs,” he said.

He pointed out that the German government stands by BiH and its people, as well as that it is necessary to impose sanctions on those who work on its disintegration.

”We strongly condemn the attempts at secessionism. Dodik and Covic should be sanctioned for trying to split the state,”Ahmetovic concluded, Klix.ba writes.
