All 58 passengers and four crew members of a commercial plane died today in a plane crash in the Brazilian state of Sao Paolo.

This was confirmed to journalists by Osmir Cruz, Secretary of Security in Sao Paulo.

The ATR-72-500 plane crashed in the Capela settlement, in the small town of Vinhedo. It is a Voepass company plane.

Cruz added that no one on the ground was injured since the plane crashed in a populated area.

Local media reports that the plane was flying from the city of Cascavel, in the state of Parana, to Guarulhos International Airport, in Sao Paulo.

Reports from the Flightradar aircraft tracking platform indicate that the aircraft fell from approximately 4,000 meters in about a minute.

The Brazilian airline Voepass Linhas Aereas thanked the services involved in the intervention and added that the cause of the accident is currently unknown.

Videos have been published on social networks showing the plane falling between the trees, and one of those videos shows a thick cloud of black smoke rising quickly, Anadolu agency writes.
