The European Researchers’ Night is taking place today in Sarajevo and ten other cities across Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Head of the European Union Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina and EU Special Representative in BiH, Ambassador Luigi Soreca, opened the event in Sarajevo, noting that the European Researchers’ Night is taking place simultaneously in 25 countries across Europe, and more than 1.5 million visitors are expected. In BiH, it is taking place in 11 cities.

– It is important to have ideas, and it is especially important to promote their value and the value of science – said Ambassador Soreca.

He noted that the European Union allocates funds for research and innovation through its Horizon Europe program, which is a seven-year program.

He expressed satisfaction that BiH is also a beneficiary of a part of these funds.

– In the period from 2021 to 2024, within the framework of Horizon Europe, BiH has used 13 million euros of funds – said Ambassador Soreca.

He took the opportunity to appeal to the domestic authorities because, as he said, we are approaching the deadline for submitting the Reform Agenda, which is September 30 this year, “to seize this opportunity and use the funds for the benefit of all citizens”.

The coordinator of the European Researchers’ Night for BiH, Lejla Čamo, said that the European Researchers’ Night unites Bosnia and Herzegovina precisely through science, 11 cities across BiH – from Banja Luka, Mostar, Konjic, Trebinje, Tuzla, Neum, Sarajevo, Travnik to Bijeljina, Brčko and Goražde.

– We celebrate science, we join the whole of Europe. More than 250 cities across Europe are celebrating science tonight, with the help of the European Union and the Horizon Europe program – said Čamo.

She says that the main focus is always on young people, and that they work on popularizing science.

The European Researchers’ Night is the largest European scientific and communication event, which represents the diversity and importance of European research and innovation. This year it is being held in 25 countries across Europe, and more than 1.5 million visitors are expected.

The event has been organised in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 2012, offering visitors of all ages the opportunity to meet scientists, learn more about their work in an engaging way and explore careers in science.

Fairs, experiments and demonstrations, games, quizzes, competitions, exhibitions or digital activities are held across Bosnia and Herzegovina and Europe.

The European Researchers’ Night is supported by Horizon Europe and the Marie-Curie Actions, the European Union’s largest programme for science, innovation and research.
