Ambassador of Switzerland to BiH Andrea Rauber Saxer yesterday submitted the document of Strategy of cooperation between Switzerland and BiH for the period 2017-2020 to the Prime Minister of Canton Sarajevo, Elmedin Konakovic.
“Switzerland and BiH are co-operating for 20 years. Special emphasis in the Swiss program of cooperation was put on youth employment, specifically the so-called business clubs. They should help them to find a job, and for the young people is crucial to actively participate in the development of their country,” said Ambassador Saxer.
On the meeting was discussed the air pollution, one of the problems that numerous European cities are unfortunately facing with.
“Because of its geographical position and the fact that it is situated in the valley, Sarajevo has a problem with fog and smog for many years, which is why the Government of Canton Sarajevo is taking short-term and long-term measures, but this problem cannot be permanently solved,” said Prime Minister Konakovic.
“We are planning the construction of the heating system in Kakanj, and together with UNEP (United Nations Environment Program) we are working on the introduction of small neighborhood boiler rooms that would work on energy sources if necessary, with the aim to introduce a household in the system and reduce the number of home furnaces, and therefore air pollution,” explained Prime Minister Konakovic.
He underlined that the Government of Canton Sarajevo is serious about this problem, and announced that they will apply to European funds regarding the implementation of major projects in the field of environmental protection.
