sorensen zvaničnaThe Head of the EU Delegation to BiH Peter Sorensen and the Ambassadors of Slovenia, Romania and the Czech Republic Andrej Grasselli, Filio Teodoresci and Tomaš Szunyog visited municipality Stolac today, where they met with the mayor and the Vice-President of OV Stolac Stjepan Bošković and Edin Šetko.

On this occasion, Bošković informed the Ambassadors from EU member states on the situation in Stolac and of what is currently being done in this municipality so that Stolac could make a step towards the development of tourism and to attract new investment.

“We are currently working on it, and maybe we are the only ones in BIH with a quality project where we have succeeded in attracting good investors and to make such conditions that we could speak about the economy and development of our municipality’’, said the Mayor of Stolac.

He said that today they did not speak of politico-security opportunities, which is, according to his opinion, a sign that good things are starting to happen in this municipality.

According to the EU Special Representative to BiH, the European perspective of BIH is very clear and it is clear to everyone what has to be done, and the role of local government is especially important.

“Withstanding the pressure of the EU can only be done through business and this is why such visits are very important’’, said Sorensen.

“Our visit will focus on the cultural heritage, education, inclusion in social movements and the economy and energy’’, said Sorensen. He added that ‘examples from the field that are offered to us by our hosts gave us a good picture to better understand how things go when it comes to local government’’.

The Slovenian Ambassador said that he is happy that cooperation between the various constituent peoples is improving in Stolac, which is one of the most important prerequisites for progress in all areas.

The Czech Ambasador Szunyong said how one million Czechs visit Croatia and Montenegro every year, and that he does not see a reason why some of them should not come to BiH.

“I will focus on the tourist potential in BiH and will recommend my fellow citizens to visit BIH’’, he said.

The Romanian Ambassador Teodorescu thinks that today’s visit gave an objective reality of this region.

Otherwise, all Ambassadors expressed their satisfaction in Stolac, which would help in attracting foreign investment to this municipality and tourists.

In addition to the meeting with municipal governments, the Ambassadors visited the project for the protection of the cultural heritage of Stari Grad Stolac, and they met with the Directors of the school and visited the economic-business zone Hodovo.

As previously stated by the Delegation of the EU to BiH, the EU recognizes the importance of local government in the process of European integration, economic development and the protection of cultural heritage.
