Americans Reveal Which Team the Pope Supports – His Brother Offers a Different Answer

Already on the second day of the conclave, a decision was made on the election of the new head of the Catholic Church. The cardinals elected Robert Francis Prevost, making it the first time an American became pope and assumed the Holy See.

After it was announced that the new pope comes from Chicago, speculation immediately began about which MLB team, the strongest baseball league, he supports.

In this United States (U.S.) city, located on the shore of Lake Michigan, there are two prominent baseball clubs – the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox. The dilemma about the Pope’s support was quickly clarified by his brother, John Prevost.

Some media reported that Pope Leo XIV supports the Cubs, which surprised his brother, who stated:

“He was never a Cubs fan. I don’t know where that came from. He’s always been a Sox supporter.“

How devoted the new pope actually is to supporting the White Sox is also shown by a report from one U.S. media outlet, which published a photo of Leo XIV from a game between the White Sox and the Houston Astros in the MLB finals. That season, the team favored by the new pope won the World Series, which was a reason for great celebration.
