Amir Secic turned the Golgotha of his Life into a Book

Unlike most of his peers, a twenty-two-year-old Amir Secic could not spend his childhood in the hugging arms of his father, Ibrahim, who was killed in Srebrenica genocide back in July 1995.

The war took his pregnant mother to Tuzla where she gave birth to Amir, and she, only three days after delivery, decided to leave him at the University Clinical Center (UCC) Tuzla.

This brave young man spent his childhood, as well as teenage days, in the Home for children without parental care in Tuzla.

He was always dreaming about his father’s hugs, and he dedicated him a book called “I was hardly a child”.

“I was born just few months after the death of my father, we did not have time to meet one another, and I decided to write a book that I dedicated to him as well. This is my victory, but it is also his. In this book, among other things, I was talking about my life in the Home for children without parental care in Tuzla, as well as about the period after I left this facility,” said Amir.

Amir spent 20 years of his life in the Home for children without parental care in Tuzla.

This young man wrote in one part of his book that he and his peers had everything in the home, except for the most important thing – parental love.

“Was there anything that could replace that to us? You do not know how it kills a man, especially the one who is quiet and hides the truth even from himself. I’ve seen a lot of times a mother hugging her son, and I felt a pain in my heart. I tried not to see the joining of these two hearts that become one,” wrote Amir in his book.

He found the remains of his father, Ibrahim, back in 2013, and he buried them at the Memorial Center in Potocari that same year.

He also believes that the entire truth related to Srebrenica must be revealed.

“Srebrenica must never be forgotten, nor it can repeat. Although I was not even born when Srebrenica genocide happened, all those events left a deep impact on my life, and the war took the most important thing in my life even before my birth,” stated Amir.
