Due to the forecast of heavier rainfall in Herzegovina, western and central Bosnia, water levels are expected to rise in most of the Sava River basin in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Given the expected rainfall amounts, locally up to 100 mm/m2 in some parts of the basins, and the forecasted increase in temperatures and rapid melting of snow, water overflowing from the riverbed and the occurrence of flash and urban floods is possible – the Agency for the Sava River Basin announced.

The statement states that an emergency hydrological state is forecast for most of the Sava River basin in the FBiH in the next three days.

The notification on the forecast of an emergency hydrological state refers to the areas of Una-Sana, Canton 10, Central Bosnia, Zenica-Doboj and Sarajevo Canton.

The Sava River Basin Agency suggests that the competent institutions monitor the situation on the ground and act in accordance with their authorities, and recommends increased caution to the services implementing measures and activities for the protection and rescue of people and material assets.

The competent civil protection services should warn the population that there is a danger of approaching the banks due to the possible increase in the depth and speed of water flow in the rivers, and to provide them with timely notification with instructions and guidelines, so that the population can take self-protection measures in time, with the aim of reducing damage from the harmful effects of floods.

Information on current and measured water levels at all hydrological stations in the Sava River Basin in the Federation of BiH is available on the website of the Sava River Basin Agency: http://www.voda.ba.

All activities for monitoring and reporting on the current hydrological situation are carried out in accordance with the Federal Operational Plan for Flood Protection.
