kantonalna-bolnica-bihacReconstructed TB Ward of Cantonal Hospital “Dr. Irfan Ljubijankić” was officially opened in Bihać. The construction of TB Ward worth 240,000 BAM was financed by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) within the UNDP Project “Strengthening the DOTS Strategy and Improving the National Tuberculosis Programme, including Multidrug Resistant and Infection Control”.

“This is another step towards the restoration of the Cantonal Hospital and we are honoured to have the opportunity to support its normal functioning. As the laboratory equipment for the diagnosis of tuberculosis worth 84,000 BAM will be soon delivered, population of this region will have access to diagnostics and treatment of Tuberculosis in line with European standards”, said Slobodan Tadić, Regional Representative of UNDP.

“On the top of funds provided by TB project, Cantonal hospital co-financed reconstruction of the Ward  and provided the technical support, for which I am very proud. Today we can witness results of our joint work“, said Havić Hajrudin MD, director of the Cantonal Hospital. He highlighted that this is one in a series of joint projects successfully implemented with the UNDP.

During 2013, using the funds provided by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) for the project “Strengthening the DOTS Strategy and Improving the National Tuberculosis Programme, including Multidrug Resistant and Infection Control”, UNDP has launched activities aimed at reconstruction of TB control departments in Brčko, Trebinje, Foča, Travnik, Doboj and Bihać in 2013, and ensured their compliance with international recommendations. In addition, UNDP ensures procurement of the necessary anti-tuberculosis drugs in order to make this segment of medical care free of charge for all patients.
