A new school year has started at our Bosnia and Herzegovina Supplementary School at the Bosnia House in Birmingham. The school has been operating for 32 years, without interruption, bringing together generations of children, nurturing the Bosnian language, culture, tradition, and connection to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This long-term work is possible thanks to the dedication of many activists, parents, and teachers. Special gratitude goes to our children from Birmingham, Wolverhampton, and surrounding cities, who attend school wanting to learn Bosnian and find out about their parents’ homeland.
For more than three decades, hundreds of children have learned Bosnian in our school, made friends, and kept a connection with their roots. We are especially proud of this. It is particularly important to us that new generations can speak to their families in their mother tongue, understand their origin, and feel a sense of belonging to Bosnia and Herzegovina as they grow up and build their future in the UK.
The classes take place in the renovated premises of Bosnian House, which provide a warm environment for learning, socializing, and developing children’s talents. This year’s program includes classes in the Bosnian language, activities for the youngest, the work of the “Fahira Hasedžić” Cultural and Artistic Society, religious education, and creative content. In addition to classes, we organize cultural, sports, and entertainment activities every weekend to make Bosnian House the place children gladly come to and where they develop their interests through games and socialization.
Classes and activities are held every Saturday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Bosnian House in Birmingham. Our doors are also open to new students. We invite parents and children to contact us and join us.
It would make us happy if the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina recognized this long-term effort and offered concrete support in enhancing lectures. This help would mean a lot to our children and everyone who invests their time, knowledge, and love in preserving the Bosnian language and identity in Great Britain.
Thank you to everyone who is part of this story and who helps us continue it for future generations, it was stated in the press release.
