The Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH MoD) is directly in charge of 67 activities as part of the BiH Reform Program, which was adopted by the BiH Council of Ministers at its session on November 9.
According to the newly adopted program, the BiH MoD participates in the implementation of 11 more activities in cooperation with other institutions of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Ministry confirmed for FENA.
The Reform Program of Bosnia and Herzegovina consists of five strategic chapters, two of which belong entirely to the Ministry of Defense, for the implementation of which it is directly responsible, and it is about defense and military issues, i.e. the issue of resources, while within the three other chapters it has a part of directly delegated obligations.
The Team for the Implementation of the Reform Program of Bosnia and Herzegovina is working on this task within the framework of BiH Ministry of Defense, and is managed by the Deputy Minister of Defense for Policy and Plans, Mijo Krešić, with the determined composition, tasks, deadlines and responsibilities of the Team.
“The key obligation of the BiH Ministry of Defense from the BiH Reform Program is the implementation of the Defense Review document, whose integral element is the Plan for the Modernization and Development of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH AF),” stated the BiH Ministry of Defense in response to an inquiry about the significance of the BiH Reform Program.
As they further state, by adopting the aforementioned document, Bosnia and Herzegovina confirms its consistency in the implementation of strategic decisions and commitments, and the continuity of partnership cooperation within the framework of the Membership Action Plan (MAP) is ensured.
At the same time, the Ministry of Defense of BiH explains that its representatives participate in the Commission for Cooperation with NATO, formed by the Council of Ministers of BiH, which is the most responsible body for the implementation of BiH’s obligations from the BiH Reform Program.
In addition, the Commission for Cooperation with NATO organizes and manages the preparation of annual documents – reform programs within the framework of cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and NATO, and submits them to the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina for consideration and adoption.
The document Reform Program of Bosnia and Herzegovina is submitted without prejudicing the final decision on membership in the NATO alliance, but as a strategic commitment for active participation in regional, European and Euro-Atlantic cooperation processes, stated the Ministry of Defense of BiH.
