The President of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, will tour the Western Balkans region from September 30 to October 2, but won’t visit Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia.
“Considering the upcoming parliamentary and general elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, the President intends to visit these countries additionally, at a later date,” said Arianna Podesta, spokesperson for the European Commission, during today’s briefing in Brussels.
She announced that Von der Leyen will visit Tirana, Pristina, Podgorica, and Skopje as part of her Western Balkans tour, where she will hold talks with top state officials and visit projects financed by the EU.
“The focus of the talks will be the upcoming steps on our partners’ path to the EU and progress achieved in gradual integration,” Podesta said.
She said that this will be the sixth consecutive year that Von der Leyen has visited the region. She also recalled her statement from the June summit that the EU will not be complete without the Western Balkans.
