Another 16 Dinamo fans were released from Greek prisons, making a total of 91 Croatian citizens freed, the Croatian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MVEP) announced today.
“According to the information received by the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Athens, another 16 Croatian citizens were released, making the total number of 91 Croatian citizens released,” announced MVEP.
Members of the Bad Blue Boys (BBB) have been in 14 prisons across Greece since August for their involvement in a clash with fans of Greece’s AEK that left one fan of the Athens club dead.
Like the others up to now, this group was offered and used financial assistance when returning to Croatia, and a travel document was issued for one person, adds the MVEP of the Republic of Croatia.
In the press release, the ministry states that it was also offered the possibility of paying the bail with a later refund, in order to speed up the procedures, but such an offer was not used considering that the bail was paid through the fans’ lawyer.
At the beginning of December, all imprisoned BBB members were examined in court, and according to the Greek media, a total of 95 requests for release were submitted.
MVEP adds in its statement that the government will continue to help Croatian citizens and maintain communication at all levels with Greek bodies through the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Athens.
